Privacy Policy

This site is a personal portfolio. It collects as little as possible: if you do not contact me, I do not collect anything that identifies you.

Who is responsible

I am Matthew Jenkins. I am the data controller for this website. You can reach me at matt.jenkins81@gmail.com.

What I collect, and why

If you use the contact form, I collect the details you type in: your name, email address, company if you give one, the enquiry type you select, and your message. I use these only to read and reply to your enquiry.

The form also records basic technical information such as your browser and device type. It does not record your IP address; I have turned that off because a contact form does not need it.

If you just read the site, I do not collect anything about you. There is no analytics, no tracking pixels, no advertising, and no profiling of any kind.

My web host keeps standard server logs, which normally include IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting. That is the host’s own operational record rather than something I use, and I do not analyse it.

The legal basis

  • Your consent for the contact form. You tick the consent box before sending, and you can withdraw that consent at any time by emailing me.
  • Legitimate interests for keeping the site secure and working, which covers the host’s server logs and the spam checks on the form.

How long I keep it

I keep enquiries for 12 months from our last exchange, then delete them. If your enquiry leads to ongoing work or a longer conversation, I keep it for as long as that relationship needs and no longer.

You can ask me to delete your enquiry sooner and I will do it.

Who else sees it

I do not sell your data, and I do not share it for marketing. A small number of providers necessarily handle it in order to run the site:

  • My web hosting provider, which stores the website and its database, including form entries.
  • Google (Gmail), because enquiries are emailed to me and sit in my inbox.
  • Google Fonts. The site currently loads two typefaces from Google’s servers, which means your browser contacts Google and Google receives your IP address when you view a page. I am moving these fonts onto this site’s own server to remove that.

Cookies

This site sets no advertising or tracking cookies, so there is no cookie banner to dismiss. WordPress sets cookies only if you log in to the site, which applies to me and not to visitors.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • ask what personal data I hold about you, and get a copy
  • have inaccurate data corrected
  • have your data deleted
  • restrict or object to how I use it
  • receive your data in a portable format
  • withdraw consent at any time, without affecting anything done before you withdrew it

Email me at matt.jenkins81@gmail.com and I will respond within one month. There is no charge.

Complaints

If you think I have handled your data badly, please tell me first so I can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK regulator:

Changes to this policy

If I change how the site handles data, I will update this page and change the date at the top.
